UNILAG VC Advocates for Quality Academic Journals

By Anthony Gift

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folashade Ogunsola, has stressed the need for academic journal editors to improve their editorial skills to contribute to the global picture.

She expressed this during a one-day training for editors of journals in Nigerian Tertiary Institution held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at the Arthur Mbanefo digital Research Centre, UNILAG.

The training aimed to deepen the knowledge of academic journal editors and improve the quality of academic journals so that they are globally acceptable.

Folashade emphasised that enhancing publications’ quality will promote intellectual output and position Nigeria and Africa for more global recognition. She also expressed her commitment to improving student quality through capacity building for all staff members.

“Publishing is not politics, it has a great trajectory in terms of standards, policy formulation and direction. It is therefore important for publications to meet required standards which we must commit to,” she said.
