The University of Lagos Students’ Union (ULSU) has issued a public health advisory urging students to remain vigilant and observe preventive measures following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In a statement released on October 21, 2026, the union’s Health and Environmental Safety Secretary, Kaosarat Lawal, said there was no cause for panic on campus but stressed the importance of taking early preventive measures to ensure the safety of the university community.
The advisory outlined safety guidelines, including regular handwashing with soap and running water or the use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
Students were also advised to avoid sharing unwashed personal items in hostels and to maintain clean living environments.
According to the statement, symptoms of Ebola include high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, body weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea and unexplained bleeding. Students who feel unwell or experience these symptoms were urged to seek prompt medical attention rather than self-medicate or isolate themselves without assistance.
“Taking early preventive measures is our collective responsibility to keep our school spaces safe,” the statement read.
The union further advised students to rely on official information from ULSU, the University of Lagos management and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), while warning against spreading misinformation or stigmatising others.
For public health inquiries or to report a suspected case, the advisory provided the NCDC’s toll-free hotline, 6232.
The union urged students to remain vigilant and informed while observing the recommended preventive measures.
