UNILAG Press Introduces Top Reader to Expand Publications Digital Access

By Joshua Esther and Dada Oluwaseunfunmi

The University Of Lagos (UNILAG), in partnership with Avas Tech, is set to launch Top Reader digital platform designed to expand access to literature, through online publishing, sales and distribution.

The presentation, held on Thursday, November 5. 2026, at the Digital Newsroom of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS).

The Project and Delivery Director of Avas Tech, Feyikunmi Yinka, said authors and students could publish their works on the platform without incurring the cost of printing physical copies.

Yinka said Top Reader is designed to connect authors, lecturers, students, and publishers through a digital platform where a wide-range of books can be published, sold, rented and accessed.

He noted that the revenue from the book sales would be shared among authors, co-authors, UNILAG Press and other service providers based on an agreement made by the stakeholders before the book is made available for purchase.

Yinka explained that the platform also features an Author Studio, which allows authors to monitor views, clicks, purchases and earnings from their publications through a dashboard.

According to him, when their books are purchased, authors would receive email notifications and payments directly to the accounts of various stakeholders.

“Immediately a book is purchased, the particular percentage you have allocated to each beneficiary will go to them” he said.

The Sub-Dean of FCMS, Dr. Ebony Oketunmbi, raised a concern about the privacy of the application.

In response, Yinka explained that the platform uses a secured, non-transferable licence that links the device used for transactions, preventing external access.

Yinka added that in the case of a damaged device, users can contact the support team to get back online through another device within 24 hours.

Present at the event were the Dean of FCMS, Prof. Oloruntola Sunday; faculty lecturers, Prof. Adepoju Tejumaiye; Prof. Ismail Ibraheem; and the Manager and Chief Editor of UNILAG Press, Nkenchor Golda.
