UNILAG, Minister, seek partnership at International week

The University of Lagos and the Minister of Interior have called for a seamless global partnership in the higher education systems.

The International week held at the University of Lagos was themed “Breaking the Borders of Partnership”, was a collaboration that is key in recording faster progress in higher education.

The Deputy Vice-chancellor, Development Services, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa said in her welcome remarks that it was the third UNILAG International week.

The Vice-chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, explained that the theme was chosen so as to devote some attention and strategize on how to overcome the impediments to the effective implementation of Memoranda of Understanding.

The Vice-chancellor further stated that as we celebrate the achievements of higher education internationalization agenda from the partnerships and collaborations to date, we should also take note of the load of work that still needs to be done to break barriers that hinder us from other borders to these partnerships.

She said, “We need to proffer new ways to address this challenge to allow for a seamless internationalization.”

The Minister of Interior, Prof. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said by respecting perspectives, valuing differences and fostering a spirit of inclusivity, partnerships that are not bound by limitations but empowered by possibilities could be established.

Also speaking were the Vice-chancellor and Principal, University of Dundee, Prof. Iain Gillespie; Executive Secretary TETFUND, Mr Sonny Echono; and Acting Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Dr Chris Maiyaki.

Mr Sonny Echono reiterated that there was a need to embrace internationalization and create the right atmosphere.

Dr Chris Maiyaki advised UNILAG to review its strategies as it has the potential of becoming the best university in Nigeria and among the top 100 in the world.
