The management of the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) has commiserate with the family of the late Emeritus Professor Umaru Shehu, CON, CFR, over the demise of the academic icon and intellectual giant.
Professor Emeritus Umaru Shehu CON, CFR, born 8 December 1930, passed away on 2 October, 2023 at the age of 93.
He was a distinguished Nigerian Professor of Medicine who has held significant positions in several universities, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Maiduguri.
He was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN).
Late Emeritus Professor Umaru Shehu also served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of UNILAG from 1996 to 1999.
He will be remembered for his indelible imprints in the promotion of medical education in Nigeria and Africa at large.
On behalf of the University of Lagos, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Professor of Medicine, and implores the family of the deceased to find solace in the noble legacies left behind by the late egghead.
