MSSN UNILAG holds 2024 Academic Counseling Seminar

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, UNILAG Chapter held its Academic Counselling Seminar (ACS) on April 27, 2024, focusing on “Digital Dynamics: Navigating Academics and Life in the 21st Century.”

Notable professionals graced the event, including Professor Musa Obalola, the University of Lagos’ Dean of Student Affairs; Mr. Niyi Yusuf, Chairman of the Nigeria Economy Summit; Prof. Khalid Adekoya; Prof. Muhammad Olawale Amuda; Dr. Shittu Ayodele, the coordinator of the Office of Career Development Services in the University of Lagos, amongst others.

The seminar officially kick-started with an opening remark from Professor Khalid Adekoya, emphasizing the importance of aligning one’s life with Allah’s guidance and pursuing academic excellence.

Mr. Niyi Yusuf, as the chairman of the day, emphasized students’ role in reviving the nation’s economy and urged them to equip themselves with skills for success beyond academics.

The first-panel session, “The Research Based Academia,” led by Prof. Muhammed Olawale Amuda and Dr. Shittu Ayodele, highlighted the impact of research on societal development. The second session, “Career Pathways: From Students to Professionals,” featured insights from industry experts on how they transitioned from students to professionals in their respective fields.

In an interview, with Dr. Shittu Ayodele, he emphasized the importance of asking the right questions, honing research skills, data gathering, and conceptualization for credible research.

The ACS Chairman expressed gratitude to the university administration, MSSN UNILAG, and attendees, emphasizing a high turnout of over 1600 students who registered and 83% are first-timers. He pledged improvements based on lessons learned.

The ACS 2024 provided valuable insights on the attendees and equipped them to navigate the complexities of student life and prepare for professional success.
