The Vice-Chancellor, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, led fitness enthusiasts across and beyond the campus community on 6000 seconds of fitness exercise.
The aim was to highlight the significance of a sound mind in a healthy body.
The seventh edition of the annual sports titled “6000 Seconds of Strength, Endurance, and Cardio,” took place at the Indoor Arena of the UNILAG Sports Complex on Monday, the 2nd of October. Principal officers, staff, students and fitness enthusiasts were in attendance.
The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to congratulate the entire campus community on Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary.
She also emphasized that the event provided an opportunity for participants, especially those with office jobs, to experience the numerous benefits of physical exercises.
Joined by other university management members, the Vice-Chancellor commended the event’s organizer, Gbenga Akinpelu, a 2010 UNILAG alumnus from the Faculty of Education’s Department of Human Kinetics Education, for returning to his alma mater with a commendable idea.
She encouraged other alumni to emulate it, so as to contribute to the university’s Future-Ready Agenda.
Gbenga Akinpelu, professionally known as Ben Fit, expressed gratitude to the campus community for their warm reception of the program since its launch at UNILAG in his address.
He urged participants to engage in regular physical exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent illnesses.
The event, which lasted for 6000 seconds (equivalent to one hour and forty minutes), featured physical exercises focused on strength, endurance, and cardio.
Participants moved in sync with the rhythms of popular Nigerian songs, ensuring both coordination and entertainment.
