In a symbolic event held in the Institute’s Board Room on October 4, 2023, the leadership of the Confucius Institute at UNILAG was officially transferred from Professor Chimdi Maduagwu to
Professor Obi Iwuagwu.
The ceremony was attended by key figures, including UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development Services, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, and the Chinese Director of the Confucius
Institute, Professor Zhao Hongling.
During the event, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa expressed the university’s pride in the accomplishments of the Confucius Institute despite limited resources.
She emphasized the joy of witnessing individuals trained at the Confucius Institute proficiently speak and use the Chinese language, crediting the outgoing Director, Professor Maduagwu, for
this achievement.
Additionally, she commended the Institute’s management and staff for maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere, expressing optimism for its continued success.
Furthermore, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, having previously collaborated with the incoming Director, Professor Obi Iwuagwu, vouched for his capability to lead the Institute.
She assured the incoming leadership and all members of the Confucius Institute at UNILAG of the university’s support in advancing the Institute to greater heights.
