Handing over due to personal reasons – Former Mr UNILAG

Mr Inioluwa Oderinde, the winner of the Mr Unilag 2023 pageant has handed over the title to the first runner-up of the competition, Mr Joseph Onunkwo.

This occurred in a ceremony held in the office of the Dean of Student Affairs on Monday 31st July 2023. In an interview with Unilag Sun, Mr Oderinde stated that his decision to pass on the title was not an easy one to make, but he believes that it was the best choice for him at this time. The reason for stepping down from the position remains undisclosed as it pertains to personal reasons related to the former Mr Unilag.

“It was not an easy decision to make, but I believe it is the best choice for me at this time. As a result, I have handed over the prestigious title to the 1st runner-up, who I am confident will fulfil the duties with great passion and dedication.

However, due to his decision, all monetary prizes meant for Mr Oderinde will now be passed on to the newly decorated Mr UNILAG. 

Despite the turn of events Mr Oderinde remains positive and encourages others to give their support to the new Mr Unilag.

“The feeling of accomplishment and pride in winning can be unforgettable. It also boosted my confidence in striving for success in the future…Please know that my decision was not taken lightly, and I trust that you will continue to lend your support to the new Mr Unilag. I wish the new titleholder all the success and fulfilment in the role”

We also spoke to Mr Onunkwo, the new Mr Unilag, who said “I would like to give God all the glory and I really feel honoured to take up the mantle of Mr Unilag, the school of first choice and nation’s pride”

 Furthermore, he shared the projects he planned to implement as the first runner-up, which will bear fruit now that he has the mantle of Mr Unilag. He intends to implement these projects with the help of God and the entire university body. 

“As it stands now, I’m planning on how to focus on the physically impaired students and how to give them a sense of full belonging. Also, regarding the issue of security, I would like to see the improvement of 24/7 CCTV cameras”

In a parting remark, Mr Joseph encouraged students to believe in themselves and be unique in their own way and keep the culture of excellence of the University of Lagos.
