Global Ties: UNILAG, UK, Others to Meet in Lagos

By Tobi Alake

Nigerian and United Kingdom dignitaries, including Education Minister Tahir Mamman and University of Dundee’s VC Iain Gillespie, are set to inaugurate UNILAG’s international week themed “Breaking the Borders of Partnership.”

Addressing challenges in collaboration, the conference aims to tackle issues like visa processing and work permits for foreign scholars, with the Interior Minister supervising Nigeria’s Immigration Service.

Key figures from the Nigerian University Council (NUC), Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND), and other stakeholders will discuss policy directions, reinforcing the government’s commitment.

The conference, initiated three years ago, features Mr. Gillespie as the keynote speaker, joined by international experts like Jo Angouri and Arnim Heinemann.

UNILAG’s International Week serves as a vital platform for global collaboration, fostering discussions on cross-border relationships, research collaborations, and foreign relations to elevate the quality of university education in Nigeria.

This third edition brings together participants from diverse backgrounds, including the diplomatic community, African education policymakers, representatives from Nigerian and international institutions, esteemed academicians, industry leaders, and students.

The weeklong program aims to facilitate meaningful dialogues on the challenges and opportunities of transnational education, fostering collaborations that can benefit Nigeria on the global stage.
