UNILAG students represents Nigeria at world university games

Three students of the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) were named by the National Universities games Association, NUGA,  to represent Nigeria at the 31st FISU world university Games in Chengdu, China.

The event held from July 28 to August 8. 

The representatives are; Mr. Ikko-Allah Ayuba, a 400-level student of Department of cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science; Ms. Oyeniyi Kehinde, a 300- level student of the Department of Business Education, Faculty of Education; and Mr. Thovoethin Sewekan, a 300-level student of the Department of Human Kinetics, Faculty of Education. 

The trio won gold medals in their respective sport categories – table tennis men’s single, table tennis women’s single and 400m during the 26th NUGA Games in 2022. 

 Recall that the University of Lagos hosted the 26th NUGA Games in March 2022, in which the University emerged first runner-up.

The trio represented the country in  Men’s Table tennis, Women’s Table Tennis and Athletics respectively.

Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, Vice Chancellor, UNILAG, had congratulated the representatives on the successful selection to represent Nigeria in Chengdu 2021. She also charged them to go for gold for the Gold at the Games.

The International University Sports Federation (FISU)  World University Games, tagged “Chengdu 2021” was initially scheduled for the summer of 2021, but was rescheduled due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

 The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games takes place  between Friday, July 28, 2023 and Tuesday, August 8, 2023. It featured 18 sports and 269 medal event.
