UNILAG Engineering alumni donate offices to faculty

By Victor Chijioke

The University of Lagos Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association (UNILAGFEAA) has donated 12 lecturers’ offices to the faculty.

The unveiling and commissioning ceremony held at the Faculty of Engineering on Friday, 28th July 2023.

The donation was made through both the personal effort of  Engr. Kolawole Ogunsanya, an alumni of the faculty, and the collective effort of UNILAGFEAA.

It involved the extension of the building housing the Departments of Mechanical, Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Speaking at the event, UNILAGFEAA chair Engr. Dideolu Falobi revealed that the donation was part of the projects the association has planned for the faculty in its ‘N500m development bouquet’.

According to him, four 116-seater classrooms are currently under construction.

He also disclosed that “a two-storey student’s study centre/restaurant, an expansion of the car park, a general upgrade of the faculty’s buildings and laboratories, and an operational bus for the faculty” are in the works.

Furthermore, he called upon fellow alumni to give back. “I seize this opportunity to call on the alumni of the faculty to come on board and contribute their quota to the improvement of the learning environment that was the stepping stone to wherever we may be now,” he said.

At the event, Engr.  Kolawole Ogunsanya appealed to the government at all levels to take infrastructural development seriously as it is key to moving Nigeria forward.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, thanked the donors personally and collectively.

She remarked that with this project, what the donors have done is to provide an environment for lecturers to thrive in not only their learning and research functions but in their teaching.

The new lecturers’ offices were commissioned by both Prof. Folasade Ogunsola and Engr. Kolawole Ogunsanya.
