ASUU to Join NLC strike Wednesday

By Heritage Kehinde

The Academic Staff Union of Universities will join the Nigeria Labour Congress  (NLC) planned industrial action set to begin on Wednesday, August 2.

This was revealed by the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke in a telephone interview with reporters.

The ASUU president stated that the union is consulting its members on the matter but they will still have to join NLC, as a member of the trade union.

“We are still consulting with our members, but we are members of NLC so it is definite. If NLC says there will be a demonstration, we are members with them so we will definitely join,” he stated.

Recall that despite ongoing talks with the federal government, the NLC decided to embark on a strike to demonstrate its grievances.

They also aim to compel the government to reverse all anti-poor policies.

These policies includes an increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, public school fees, Value Added Tax (VAT) and other new developments.
