TETFUND: Echono vows to complete abandoned varsity projects

By Michelle Uzuegbu

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Mr. Sonny Echono has promised to complete all abandoned projects.

In his statement during a seminar in Ikeja, Lagos attributed the abandoned projects to the irresponsibility of the predecessors and the nonchalance of present heads of these Universities. He revealed that there are approximately 175 unfinished projects sponsored by TETFund across various higher institutions in Nigeria.

He declared, “Our primary focus is on finishing neglected projects nationwide, and we plan to achieve this both in the current year and the following year.”

Regarding the abandoned library project at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Echono explained that the matter would need to be revisited by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). If the contractor is found to be competent, additional funds may be allocated to complete the
project.

He gave prominence to the need for competent individuals in positions of responsibility within the institutions to ensure the development and completion of projects.
