‘I am used to coming second’ – Adesewa Alagbala

Adesewa Alagbala, a sophomore Mass Communication student and spoken word artist, emerged victorious at the MCSA Got Talent competition, defeating nineteen other contestants.

The event, held at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, drew a large crowd of attendees, including the judging panel, contestants, performing artists, and fellow Mass Communication students cheering on their peers.

The competition began with all 20 contestants showcasing their talents. After careful deliberation by the judges, the field was narrowed down to eight finalists: Oyinwonuola, Adesewa, Jesutomilola, Sammy Sam, Debs, Jennifer, Moyo, and Temitope.

In a separate award, the President of the Mass Communication department presented Lean. M with a cash prize of 20,000 naira in recognition of his unique and well-received act. The President expressed his admiration for Lean. M’s talent and wished him continued success.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the MCSA Got Talent winners. Adesewa Alagbala came first, taking home 70,000 naira. Oyinwonuola Hamza and Deborah secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively, receiving 50,000 naira and 30,000 naira.

Alagbala expressed her joy at winning, stating, “I won the talent hunt for my hostel, and now I’ve won MCSA! I’m so excited. I always used to come in second or third at competitions, but everything seems to be working well now.” She concluded by encouraging others to pursue their passions, saying, “Whatever skill or talent you have, do it and be passionate about it.”

The President of the department commented on the MCSA Got Talent event’s established tradition, highlighting its existence before his tenure. He acknowledged the department’s abundance of talented individuals and expressed his satisfaction in providing them with a platform to showcase their abilities. “It’s a privilege to ensure this event surpasses the achievements of the previous administration,” he remarked. “Every administration strives to do better than the last, and I’m happy and confident to say that we’ve put in more effort than before.”
