Freshers’ Exams to be Held at Later Date

Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has said that the 100-level undergraduate examinations will most likely get postponed.

The underlying reason for this development is that a significant number of 100-level students in UNILAG are yet to resume, and this is due to an ongoing nationwide issue with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Most students who were given admission by the university last year are still unable to get a ‘confirmation of admission’ on their JAMB portal. As a result of this, many of them have been unable to complete the registration and screening process for newly admitted students.

Similarly, the 200-level undergraduate exams are also likely to be postponed to a later date because of the Direct Entry (D.E.) students who had some issues earlier in the semester, and as a result, were forced to resume late.

Professor Ogunsola also mentioned that the freshers’ balloting will be postponed until the issue with JAMB is sorted out, and 100-level students have gotten their respective matriculation numbers.

Her words, “For me, it is a terrible thing. JAMB is doing some verification and it is taking forever but we’ve been working with them, and it’s not just UNILAG, it is a national issue. We felt it because our admission was one of the earliest, so we’ve had to postpone things to wait for them, and we didn’t want to do a ballot before the ones affected come in”.

Meanwhile, the undergraduate examination in all faculties for returning students is to carry on as expected in February.
