Engineering beyond career paths- ULES President

The President of the University of Lagos Engineering Society (ULES). Damola Agboola has described Engineering as more than a career path but a way of engineering a mindset that seeks to solve humanity’s challenges. 

The president said this at a career fair organized last month by the society which brought together hundreds of students in contact with top engineering companies across the nation to develop their passion for the field of study.

The one-day career fair featured engaging panel sessions around relevant topics that considered the future of engineering in the present technological age, discussions on career choices for final year students as well as multiple workshops handled by industry experts on career placement and presentation in the outside world.

Speaking at the fair, the ULES president, Damola Agboola who described engineering as a field that has consistently impacted every sphere of human existence said, “From the towering skyscrapers to the sleek smartphones that fit in our pockets, engineering has touched every aspect of our lives, and it will continue to shape the world for generations to come.

Speaking further, he said, ‘Engineering is not just a field of study or a career path. It is a way of thinking, a mindset that seeks to solve problems, overcome challenges, and create a better future for all. It is about using our skills and our knowledge to make the world a more just, equitable, and sustainable place.”

Damola on behalf of the society appreciated their sponsors, Access Deloitte, BASF, Renmoney, SLB, Oval Finance, Kawai Technologies, Elfad Concepts and V Bank for making the fair possible.

Panelists at the fair such as Oluwatoyin Ajayi (Access Bank), Femi Dada (Deloitte), Mayowa Anibaba (Renmoney) and Olumide Ogunleye (Oval Finance) also engaged the students on various topics to broaden the student knowledge base about the relevance of engineering to the present and future world developments. 

Other top companies at the fair included representatives from SunFi, Babban Gona, Ingressive for Good, GTBank, BagCo, McKinsey & Company, Larry Homes and Maliyo Games. These all made a bold commitment to supporting the future of engineering and young talents from the faculty. In a related development, they gathered the data of final-year students with a promise of employment upon graduation.

Attendees at the fair expressed their excitement at the fair and were grateful to the faculty executives for putting the fair together. They remained confident that the event would lead to new connections, opportunities and successful career paths going forward.
