At the ongoing Mass Communication Students’ Association week, Mrs Gloria Anthony, a personal finance coach and the chief executive officer of White Tigers International, advised students to avoid living an extravagant lifestyle without saving money. She urged the attendees to not live life trying to impress people while going broke.
“Don’t spend too much on looking good while having little savings. Embrace frugality. Don’t go broke while trying to prove to people that you are not broke. Be mindful of your spending,” she said.
Anthony gave the students valuable insight into savings, budget creation, investment, and wealth creation. She encouraged students to start planning for their financial freedom, noting that they are not too young to create a roadmap to financial success.
Over thirty students participated in the Financial Literacy Symposium, which focused on personal finance management and financial freedom while advocating for a lifestyle of saving, budgeting, and investment.
Emmanuel Oladipo, a 200-level student of Mass Communication, revealed that this symposium has enlightened him on the difference between savings and emergency funds.
“It has helped to shape my knowledge on how to budget and control my spending habits” he added.
In the session of the Symposium, Research Analyst, Onikoyi Kawsara spoke on the topic ‘Scaling your small business’ Onikoyi made known the power of branding and marketing of goods, tracking of sales records, and creation of valuable content to attract and roll in purchasers.
Oníkòyí shared some insight on how to become financially literate in scaling small businesses by seeking mentorship, enhancing problem-solving skills, and understanding your audience’s needs while maintaining a good relationship with them.
