40 Days To FASU Games: University Of Lagos Co-Hosting To Win-Prof Ogunsola

As the commencement of the 11th Federation of African Games Universities’ Sports (FASU) Games draws nearer, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, has announced that the university is cohosting with Lagos State University to win.

This announcement was made shortly after the fortnightly Walk for Life fitness walk, most recent of which held on Saturday, August 10, 2024. At the exercise, the Vice Chancellor viewed the fast-approaching games as an opportunity for UNILAG to improve upon its achievement of singlehandedly hosting the 26th Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA), which some stakeholders have touted as the best NUGA games so far.

At the Walk for Life exercise, Professor Ogunsola addressed the audience, among whom were principal officers, senior members of the faculty, and sports enthusiasts. She mentioned that, apart from being a physical fitness exercise, the walk was aimed at building awareness and drawing the attention of the campus community and its environs to the approaching 11th FASU games. The tournament is tagged LAGOS 2024 and is slated to hold from Friday 20th of September to Saturday 29th of September 2024.

The Vice Chancellor urged Team UNILAG athletes to put in their best in training so as to give good accounts of themselves by winning as many medals as possible. She also assured them of the management’s readiness to make the 11th FASU games a huge success.

In her words: “We will be hosting athletes from across Africa… . FASU will be fun, fast, and intense. While I implore you [Team UNILAG athletes] to be intense in all your [preparations], I assure you to leave the fun to the university management.”

Walk for Life started at UNILAG’s sports centre a few minutes past 7:00 am, with the Vice-Chancellor leading the crowd. They walked across major parts of the UNILAG main campus. The walk lasted about an hour and ended with the participants taking a stretch exercise session at the UNILAG sports complex.

A major highlight of the Walk for Life exercise was the commissioning of an 18-seater bus newly branded for the 11th FASU games.
