The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has once again emerged winner of the just-concluded National University Games Association (NUGA), with a total of 120 medals.
UNIPORT made a name for herself by being the reigning champion for 7 consecutive years. Bagging 61 golds,29 silvers and 30 bronze medals.
While the host school, University of Lagos clinched the 1st runner up title with 86 medals, Nile University, Abuja – a private university attending the NUGA for the first time – took 2nd runner up with 38 medals.
Having won the past six games, UNIPORT came ‘prepared’ as shown by their participation in all but a few team sports.
Speaking with our reporter, a UNIPORT athlete, Miracle Amadi, credited the school’s continuous reign to the fact that “our school is sports-oriented.”
Miracle said their stellar performance has a lot to do with good preparation not only for the NUGA but also as a school.
UNIPORT has also won the West African University Games (WAUG) for the past four years.
