Ogundipe bows out as UNILAG’s 12th VC

Last week, the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, formally handed over to the newly appointed 13th Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola. 

Earlier in an interview with UNILAG TV, Ogundipe expressed his gratitude to God for the successful completion of his tenure. 

Highlighting some successes his administration was able to record which include improving the school’s visibility on a global scale, procurement of research grants, rebranding of the school, emerging first place in local and global student competitions and registration of companies for students,  Ogundipe admonished his successor, Prof. Folasade to continue with some of the projects he had started especially in the areas of research and global visibility.

Ogundipe, who expressed confidence in the incoming Vice-Chancellor said, ” I know that this incoming Vice-Chancellor has institutional loyalty which will move the university forward”. 

In a series of events which ended with a formal handover ceremony tagged “Special Senate Meeting” at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi auditorium on Friday, Prof. Ogundipe formally handed over the symbols of authority to the Incoming Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade T. Ogunsola, FAS which included the Ceremonial Gown to be worn during the Convocation ceremonies; the black gown and cap to be worn for Inaugural lectures, matriculation and other special events; the Gavel; a comprehensive document of his five-year tenure and his green pen.

In attendance at the handover ceremony were members of the Senate, the highest decision-making body of the school, the Oba of Iru Land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II; 11th Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Rahmon Bello, Group General Manager, Sahara Group, Mr Kola Adesina, the chaplain, Chapel of Christ our Light, University of Lagos, Revd. Dr Azuka Ogbolumani and other key decision-makers in the school.

Prof. Ogundipe was thereafter pulled out in a motorcade and led to the Faculty of Science where he was welcomed by the Dean of the faculty, Professor Elijah Oyeyemi alongside other students and members of staff.
