By Akinyemi Ayanfejesu

Professor Rosita Igwe, a specialist in curriculum development and pedagogy at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has advocated the need for a review of the University’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS).

She made this known in her inaugural lecture, the 23rd of the 2023/2024 academic session, which was on the topic, “No Curriculum, No Education: Demystifying and Deconstructing the Myth”.

She also charged the National University Commission (NUC) to prioritise the establishment of curriculum research centres in universities for facilitating research activities and providing recommendations for resolving curriculum-related issues.

At the lecture, Professor Igwe also emphasised the need for stakeholders in curriculum formulation and reform to be aware of trends in curriculum development. Professor Igwe re-evaluated the bases of a curriculum, stressing its mportance in educational development.

She then charged the government at all levels to enlist existing expertise in curriculum development to oversee effective planning and execution of curriculum-related issues.
