UNILAG VC Meets Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Seeks Stronger Collaboration in Education and Sports.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, has met with the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Pankyu, to discuss possibilities for collaboration between UNILAG and Korean institutions.

The high-level meeting, which took place on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Korean Embassy at Abuja, focused on establishing robust exchange programmes with Korean universities, particularly in the fields of Arts, Engineering, and Sciences. Both parties expressed keen interest in fostering innovation and technology partnerships, aiming at creating a bridge between Nigerian and Korean academic landscapes.

A key talking point was the upcoming Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) Games. Professor Ogunsola sought support from the Korean Embassy, especially in the sport of Taekwondo, where South Korea is a global powerhouse. The conversation extended to potential technical assistance and other areas of support for the continental sporting event.

In a move that underscores UNILAG’s commitment to industry-relevant education, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s initiative in co-creating curricula with industry partners. According to her, this approach aims to ensure that graduates are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the global job market.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Professor Ogunsola extending invitations to Ambassador Kim for several upcoming events. These include the opening ceremony of FASU Games and the UNILAG International Week.

This diplomatic engagement marks a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria-South Korea relations in the educational sector.
