By Fareedah Yusuf

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has handed over the site for a new building project to the Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation. The project involves the construction of the Custodian Actuarial Science and Insurance Studies Centre for the Faculty of Management Sciences.

The three-storey building will replace the existing lecture hall and is expected to be completed within two years.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, described the partnership as a “handshake between town and gown”.

Ogunsola further noted that the project, undertaken by Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation, would contribute to knowledge creation while complementing the University’s efforts to improve its infrastructure.

She also expressed optimism about sustained collaboration between the Foundation and UNILAG, particularly in creating opportunities for students to connect with industry and advancing the growth and development of actuarial sciences in Nigeria.

The Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Adeola Sulaimon, described the occasion as a “dream come true” and thanked the Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation for its support.

The Chief Executive Officer of Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation, Mrs Olubunmi Aderemi, expressed her delight at the commencement of the project, particularly given her connection to UNILAG as an alumna. She described the centre as a demonstration of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting education, in line with its corporate focus on “Health, Education and Community Development”.

Aderemi further assured the University of the Foundation’s commitment to working closely to ensure the project’s smooth execution and timely completion.
