ULBS new programme to start April 2022

University of Lagos Business School will start it’s new Business of Entertainment, Media, Fashion and Sports (BEMFS) programme in April this year.

The executive director of the school, Prof. Abraham Osinubi, disclosed this in an interview with UNILAG Sun reporters while listing some of the programme’s facilitators as Dele Momodu and Larry Izamoje amongst others.

Describing the facilitators as highly experienced, he said, “we want people who have practiced for a very long time and have evidence to show that they have set up a business in that area from the very scratch.”

The director explained that the school’s expectations for the BEMFS, programme is to help young entrepreneurs in these four areas to help them structure their business and be able to monetize their talents.

“Basically, what we’re going to be doing is mentorship, the mentor provides the shoulder and eye through which the mentee will see…When you have good mentors, you are not supposed to go through wilderness experience. The mentors do not shorten the stages, but they can shorten the period,” he said.

He noted that the programme was to hold for an entire week in April and would be in-person. He however added that there would be no accommodation provision for participants.

Osinubi proudly described the BEMFS, programme as unique to the ULBS as it is the only business school running these four parts at once.

The director maintained that the school has continued to run despite the challenges posed by the 2020 pandemic and the prolonged strike actions.

He asserted that these challenges necessitated the need for online learning. “I assembled my team and we had several meetings but all I was hearing were challenges, unstable power…internet connectivity. Eventually we migrated Friday lectures fully online when I decided it was a policy” he said.

“Since we had already started Friday lectures online, we easily migrated Saturday lectures online too. We did three semesters with two examinations online. While the whole university was closed down, we did not. That is why we spent exactly two years they budgeted for,”he added.

The director noted that the BEMFS programme is targeted primarily at youths but is also open to more aged ones. He also expressed hope that the construction of the school’s permanent site near the UNILAG main gate will be completed in November this year.
