Seyifunmi Soremekun Emerges MCSA President

Seyifunmi Samson Soremekun, the deputy managing editor of Unilag Sun, has emerged as the winner of the 2023 Mass Communications Students Association (MCSA) presidential election.

Clinching 79% of the total votes cast at the polls, Soremekun secured the trust and support of the student body.

At the election which was held today, May 29, 2023, Soremekun polled 479 votes to his opponent’s 122 to emerge as MCSA’s president-elect.

During his compelling manifesto reading, the editor pledged to uphold “continuity in its truest form.” He promised to build upon the solid foundation laid by his predecessors and ensure the realization of the MCSA’s goals and aspirations.

Ecstatic about his success, Soremekun contacted his parents upon the announcement of the result, saying “Mo ti win o” (I have won!).

When asked about his emotions following the election results, he expressed a sense of relief, appreciating the weight of responsibility that now rests upon his shoulders as the president-elect of his prestigious department.

Soremekun’s triumph marks another milestone in his already remarkable leadership journey. As the deputy managing editor of Unilag Sun and Mass Scope sports editor, he has exhibited tireless dedication and has significantly contributed to the growth and success of the university’s newspaper.

As he assumes the role of MCSA President, the student body eagerly anticipates the fulfillment of the promises outlined in his manifesto.

They hope to witness the materialization of his vision for the association and the positive impact he envisions for the mass communication students.
