UNILAG Students Anticipate Growth in Erasmus Exchange Program

Four students of the University of Lagos UNILAG) have been selected to embark on Erasmus Ka171+ Exchange program to Poland, in March, 2025.

The selected students are; Priscilla Oboh, a 400-level student from the Department of Mass Communication; Olawale Fathiah, a 300-level student from the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education; Luqman Yusuff, a 400-level student from the Department of Economics; and Ugochukwu Francis, a 300-level student from the Department of Law.

The duration of the program is from Saturday, March 1st to Monday, July 14th, 2025 at the University of Szczecin, Poland, for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Speaking on what motivated the selected students to apply for the Exchange Program, they noted that they all wanted to experience what life outside Africa looked like and the program application was a perfect opportunity for them to step out of their comfort zones, have a fresh perspective on studies, network and build good relationships with people across continents.

“I have always seen myself as a global citizen, somebody who is not bound to just the borders of Nigeria and Africa alone,” Priscilla said.

The selection process had about three main stages; the application stage, the shortlisting stage and the interview stage.

Sharing insights on their experiences during the interview stage, Fathia described her experience as “the most nerve-wracking,” as she wasn’t sure of what to expect.

Ugochukwu on the other hand said, “Preparation for the interview was intense. I spent several nights going over possible questions, refining my responses, and ensuring I was ready.”

The students said that they have been preparing by learning Polish customs and language, as well as connecting with international peers. Academically, they have reviewed course materials and are eager to enhance their skills through exposure to new perspectives.

Offering advice to students aspiring to participate in similar opportunities in the future, they encouraged them to not only aspire but to seize the chance when it comes, prepare early, seek guidance from experienced students and lecturers and not allow fear hold them back.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Folashade Ogunsola, on behalf of the staff and students, congratulated them and wished them success in their academic endeavors.
