The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folashade Ogunsola has clarified the ban on the erection of canopies and driving of personal cars into the university during the 55th convocation ceremonies of UNILAG.
Prof. Ogunsola stated that while graduands and their felicitators are not allowed to erect canopies in the school, little celebrations will be allowed within the faculty and department levels.
She warned that the erection of canopies around academic areas especially around the J.F Ade Ajayi Auditorium is not allowed. “You can’t put canopies around academic areas and that has been the rule for years now,” she said.
Speaking concerning the ban on personal vehicles on the campus, she noted that individual cars will be parked at the gate while BRT buses will be used to convey everybody to the main campus. This, according to her, is to ease the flow of traffic and ensure a seamless process.
“Our campus is majorly accessed through a single route and allowing personal cars everywhere on campus will cause a traffic problem that may lead to people spending three hours on a spot because they’re coming for convocation as was the case in time past,” she said.
When asked how people will convey their food and other items to campus, she said, “UNILAG students are smart so I know they’ll figure out how to do that.”
Prof. Ogunsola went ahead to urge everybody coming to the convocation to comply with traffic rules and not engage in activities capable of breaching public peace and security.
That’s my Alma Mater. Great Akokite. Always innovation and proactive. Thank you my VC.
She spoke well,a great leader.
I support the prevention of vehicles into the campus during convocation as I experi need it in 2019. It was very chaotic but I expect a better solution to how to move food and other items during convocation. You can not say the students will figure it out. No. That is not a good answer from a prof who surround herself with academia.
I love this high level of discipline in the school. Very good.. I am just starting a blog please encourage me by approving it
