UNILAG Students Unveil LagVoice App to Track Complaints, Assess Departments

By Iman Aiyeola

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has unveiled LagVoice, a student-developed application designed to track complaints, evaluate courses and assess departmental accreditation, as part of efforts to improve service delivery and quality assurance.

The app, developed by four students of the Faculty of Engineering, emerged as the winning entry in the University’s Quality Assurance and SERVICOM (QAAS) app competition at the grand finale of its 2026 International Customer Service Week on Thursday, October 8.

The team comprises Olowokere Fathia, Kako Qareeb, Gibson Onuwa and Emmanuel Ogunsola.

The Director of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, Prof. Olufemi Saibu, said the University chose to engage its students in developing the platform rather than hire an external consultant.

“If truly, at least, we are what we say we have, then we should also use the product we produce,”he said.

He noted that the competition attracted 14 entries, with six advancing to the final stage, where a panel of industry experts assessed their submissions, adding that six finalists scored at least 80 per cent against the competition’s assessment criteria.

Speaking on the app’s features, Fathia, the team’s product manager, said LagVoice would provide a central platform for gathering student feedback, monitoring departments and simplifying information management through visual tools such as graphs and pie charts.

She said the platform’s complaints hub would include a time-based tracking system to ensure that complaints receive attention within stipulated periods.

“What makes our own complaints hub different is that we attach a clock to each complaint,” she said.

“So, if a specific amount of time set by the directorate has passed, the complaint is either escalated or brought back up again.

“That way, when students complain, their complaint is not just lost.”

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, said the initiative aligned with the university’s vision of becoming a more innovative and entrepreneurial institution.

She also assured students that the management would work with the QAAS Unit’s action plan in response to concerns raised in the Student Experience Survey.

The event, themed “The Extra Mile”, marked the third day of the University’s annual celebration of International Customer Service Week.

Those present included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Research, Prof. Matthew Olusoji Ilori; the Registrar, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adekunle; and other university officials.

The event was chaired by Dr. Kingsley Igwe, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).

The grand finale featured an awards presentation recognising individuals and units for their contributions to service delivery and quality assurance.
