UNILAG rolls out Convocation Safety guidelines

The University of Lagos, (UNILAG), has today, released COVID-19 safety guidelines ahead of its 51st convocation ceremonies slated to hold between 30th June and 8th July 2021. 

The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ademola Adeleke in a statement circulated to students on various social platforms stated that while the convocation ceremonies will maintain the COVID-19 prevention protocols, they would not be “devoid of glamour”.  

In line with the government’s direction on social gatherings, the statement reads that there will be no “parties and use of canopies within the University campus”. It further states that while Parents/Guardians and the General Public are invited, access to the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium is strictly by invitation.

Meanwhile, the University Convocation Ceremonies is scheduled to commence with the Pre-Convocation Press Conference on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 10 am in the Senate Chamber.

The Convocation lecture would be delivered by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele on Monday, July 5th, 2021 at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium. The statement added that admittance would be free to all.

The DSA, in the statement, continued by noting that the conferment of degrees would hold from Tuesday, July 6th 2021 to Thursday, July 8th, 2021at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium with two separate daily sessions and one session on the final convocation day. All sessions would hold “with strict adherence to COVID -19 protocols.”

The statement added that graduands could gain access to the auditorium by pre-registering on the university website, www.unilag.edu.ng.
