UNILAG gears up to co-host 2024 All Africa University Games

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is getting ready to co-host the 2024 All Africa university games—a major sporting event for African universities. 

UNILAG will be partnering with Lagos State University (LASU) and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) to host the All Africa University Games. This partnership will help to ensure that the games are well organised. 

UNILAG has reaffirmed its readiness to host the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) All-Africa University Games. Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, reiterated the institution’s commitment to sports growth on campus. The recent upgrades of UNILAG’s sports facilities, including an Olympic-size swimming pool and international standard courts, position the university as a hub for sports excellence. Speaking on this, the Vice-Chancellor said, “We will be leveraging the excellent facilities developed during the NUGA games in 2021.”

Prof. Ogunsola further outlined plans to enhance the university’s sports centre, including ongoing work on a 240-bed sports hostel. Beyond hosting the FASU All-Africa University Games, UNILAG aims to develop more courses around sports and build a sports academy.

“There is a sports hostel that is supposed to happen but we’re just dealing with all the paperwork.  It’s supposed to be built in about 5 months, it will be for about 240 beds which will be in the sports centre area. That’s part of the sports academy which even after this will be used for sports. So, that hostel will be built this year. “

As the countdown begins for the 2024 All Africa University Games, which is scheduled to hold later this year or early next year, UNILAG and its co-hosts have restated their commitment to making sure that the game is one to remember.
