UNILAG Dean To Student-Teachers: Be Role Models, Positive Influencers

The Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Simeon Olapido, has charged students studying education-related courses to present themselves as role models and positive influencers.

He said this during the 2024/2025 teaching practice orientation exercise at the Faculty of Education, UNILAG, which kicked off on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose Hall.

This advice comes as 300-level students in the faculty commence the compulsory 12-week teaching practice exercise in various primary and secondary schools from September 16 to Friday, December 6, 2024.

Prof. Oladipo showed his sincere concern over the rapid rate of irresponsibility, especially among children of primary and secondary school age. He explained the need for the student-teachers to represent the best of everything they have been taught so far by faculty members.

At the event, Professor Mopelola Olusakin and Dr. Funsho Olatunde presented the keynote addresses, and goodwill remarks came from the senior faculty members and heads of departments (HODs) in the Faculty of Education.

Dr Funsho Olatunde addressed the students on “Honing the Teaching Skills of the Student-Teachers for Optimum Performance in the 21st Century”.

On his part, Professor Mopelola Olusakin spoke on the need to promote discipline and positive interpersonal relationships between the student-teacher staff and students.

The students were charged by the university to abide by the rules and regulations of the various training centres they would be assigned to.

The university further encouraged them to ensure punctuality, dexterity, decent carriage and other attributes that will make it proud.
