Student Involvement is Our Priority – SERVICOM UNILAG

The Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Olufemi Saibu has noted that student involvement in the activities of his unit remains a top priority to the unit. He made this submission while speaking to UNILAG Sun reporters. 

He highlighted the initiatives that SERVICOM intends to implement, some of which are already in operation. One of them is the appointment of student ambassadors at the faculty level and unit representatives at the departmental level.

“We’ve created an inclusive arrangement where we get across to the HOD and the presidents of students in each faculty to let us have a representative of them that will serve in the committee”, Saibu said, regarding his unit’s numerous implementations.

He added that QR codes will be placed in every department and at various locations across campus. This will allow students to easily scan the codes to submit complaints or provide feedback on the services offered by the school. “If you scan the code, it directs you to a Google Form to which you can lodge a complaint. This makes it easier for students to voice their complaints,” he said.

He said, “At the beginning of each semester, we go around to all the faculties to do what we call lecture faculty audits. In the process, we enumerate a list of faulty facilities like chairs, fans, and air conditioners across all lecture rooms. And we forward this list to the Vice Chancellor who approves it, then sends it back to the respective faculties who can then request funding from the university for the repair of these facilities.” 

Prof. Saibu assured students of upgraded laboratory service delivery in the face of the new increment in laboratory fees. He said, “We cannot collect money from students and not show proof. So we are transforming the state of our laboratories, making sure students get value for the services the university has to offer.”
