NADDC, UNILAG COMMISSION FIRST SOLAR-POWERED EV CHARGING STATION

The National Automatics Design and Development Council (NADDC), last Tuesday inaugurated the first solar-powered electric vehicle charging station at the University of Lagos.

The charging station was developed by the NADDC in its efforts to promote applicable local solutions for vehicle electrification in Nigeria.

The Minister of Industry, trade and investment, Niyi Adebayo, led the federal government team to unveil and inaugurate the charging station.The station amongst other things is equipped with deep cycle batteries of up to 95Kwh storage capacity.

Niyi Adebayo explained that the key to successful industrialization is strategic human capital. He said, “So, what does this mean to you? It means giving you the tools to build a future that is uniquely yours, to inspire in you the light of innovation and creativity that will enable you write a new chapter”, he said.

The director-general of the NADDC, Jelani Aliyu, added that the world can no longer afford to keep polluting the environment and that’s why the NADDC is “committed to promoting the adoption, development, manufacturing and usage of advanced technology in the Nigerian automotive sector.” with the support of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, was grateful for the gesture and promised that the University “will put the facility to maximum use”.
