UNILAG to Hold Convocation Jan 20

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced that its 56th convocation ceremonies for the 2024/2025 academic session will commence on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

In a statement issued on December 22, 2025, the university said activities would begin with a preparation week starting on January 14.

The week will open with a pre-convocation conference hosted by the vice-chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, followed by the first convocation rehearsal at 4:00 p.m. Other activities lined up include hooding rehearsals, a special Jumat service, and a final convocation rehearsal.

An exhibition will open on Monday, January 19, ahead of the convocation lecture later that day. The lecture will be delivered by Orondaam Otto, chief executive officer of Slum2School, with Mary Odili, a former justice of the supreme court, serving as chair.

The convocation proper will begin on Tuesday, January 20, at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, with proceedings split into morning and afternoon sessions.

The morning session, scheduled for 9:00 a.m., will feature the award of first degrees, diplomas, certificates and prizes to graduates of the faculties of Education, Social Sciences, and Communication and Media Studies. The afternoon session, which begins at 1:00 p.m., will cover the faculties of Arts, Creative Arts, Environmental Sciences, Architecture, Life Sciences, Physical and Earth Sciences, as well as Computing and Informatics.

This will be followed by a hooding ceremony for bachelor’s degree graduates from the faculties and institutes of Engineering, Law, Management Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, and the Distance Learning Institute (DLI).

Activities will continue on Wednesday, January 21, with the award of degrees and certificates to graduates of Engineering, Law and Management Sciences in the morning, and those of Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy and DLI in the afternoon. A hooding ceremony for higher degrees from the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) and the University of Lagos Business School (ULBS) will follow.

The final convocation day, Thursday, January 22, will be dedicated to the award of postgraduate diplomas, master’s and doctoral degrees, including the best PhD thesis award, ULBS master’s degrees, and the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees.

The ceremonies will conclude with a long service award and luncheon with the doyen on Friday, January 23, and a thanksgiving service on Sunday, January 25.

The university urged members of the community, graduating students, parents, guardians and the general public to take note of the schedule.
