The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has appointed three Associate Professors as Heads of Department in its newly established Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS).
According to a statement from the Vice Chancellor’s office, Dr. Ibitayo Popoola will head the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Soji Alabi will head the Department of Public Relations and Advertising, and Dr. Ifeoma Amobi will head the Department of Broadcast, Journalism and Media Studies.
The appointments come months after Professor Sunday Oloruntola and Dr. Ebony Oketunmbi were named Dean and Sub-Dean of the faculty. The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS) was formed following the transition of the former Department of Mass Communication.
The new faculty aims to build on UNILAG’s long-standing legacy of media education in Africa. It will continue to operate Radio Unilag 103.1 FM, UnilagTV, Unilag Sun newspaper, and MassCope magazine, all of which provide hands-on training for students in broadcast and print journalism while serving the university community.
