UNILAG Releases New Hostel Balloting Guidelines for 2026/2027 Session

By Jimoh Zahirat

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced new guidelines for hostel accommodation, with online applications for the 2026/2027 academic session set to commence on Monday, August 17, 2026.

This was announced in a press statement released on July 30, 2026.

The university announced that online application portal will close on Monday, August 31, 2026, noting that the specific date for online balloting exercise will be communicated by the Dean of Students’ Affairs (DSA) after the application portal closes.

It also noted that only undergraduate students who have fully paid their school fees and completed their course registration for the current 2025/2026 academic session will be eligible to apply.

The statement added that participation in the application process is compulsory for all categories of students seeking accommodation, including biological children of staff,
sports scholars, and students living with disabilities.

It also noted that final-year students, students facing disciplinary action or found guilty of offenses such as examination malpractice, sexual harassment, or any other misconduct, expectant and nursing mothers, as well as students who secure or intend to secure bed spaces in private or partnership hostels on campus, including El-Kanemi, Gbajabiamila, and UNILAG Women Society hostels, are not eligible for university hostel allocation.

The university management said all successful applicants in the balloting exercise are required to complete registration for the 2026/2027 academic session and pay for their allocated bed spaces within three weeks after resumption, adding that failure to meet the deadline will result in the automatic withdrawal and reassignment of the allocated bed spaces.

The university urged members of staff to update their profiles on the university website to accurately reflect the details of their biological children before the application portal opens.
