Student Beneficiaries of the Universal Insurance Policy

In a bid to promote the University’s commitment to the welfare and financial security of its students, Universal Insurance PLC has donated a one-year insurance policy to selected student beneficiaries of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

This happened on Wednesday, 20th March 2024 during a seminar hosted by Universal Insurance PLC at the Faculty of Management Sciences, UNILAG.

The Managing Director of Universal Insurance, Dr Ben Ujoatuonu noted that his firm decided to partner with Insure Feel to promote insurance among Nigerian students.

He further stated that the donation of a one-year insurance cover for the beneficiaries underscored his company’s drive to increase access to insurance policies, especially for students and their parents.

“There is a need for insurance everywhere. I hope you know that as we are sitting here, we are running the risk of one form of injury or the other. And the only way we can protect ourselves is to buy insurance. What Insure Feel wants to do is to provide this insurance to you. In the nature and state of the economy of Nigeria today, no better time to buy insurance than now. Because the cost of everything is going out of the reach of everybody, including the rich and the poor, everybody is crying.

“The only solace you have is when you have insurance to protect both our assets and our liabilities and everything around us. So, I want to congratulate the students for being part of this event at UNILAG. And I’m quite sure that this is not the end of this program at UNILAG. This event will be good. So for you to be the pioneer beneficiaries of this program, I congratulate you”, he said.

Mr Chuks Udo Okonta of the Insure Feel Initiative, having appreciated the University officials for their support, emphasized the unique aim of the initiative. He said, “Insure feel is about helping the public to manage their risks through insurance, for you to feel the importance and impact of insurance.”

Mr. Dele Ayeleso, representing the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, emphasized the role of the initiative in bridging the gap between the insurance industry and the public.

He said, “And gradually the initiative which is now gaining an imaginable crescendo has attained a reputation of bridging the gap between the insurance industry which was once misunderstood by the public and the insuring public. And I think this is one of the most laudable ideas and initiatives that the industry should embrace and give its full support if it must grow as expected.”

Also worthy of note, is the presence of AGM Retail Universal Insurance, Dr. Tony Okafor.

Speaking on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, the Sub-Dean, Dr. Samson Ogege, thanked Universal Insurance and the convener of Insure Feel Initiative, Chuks Okonta for such a wonderful gesture towards students of his faculty in particular, and UNILAG in general.

“The faculty is thanking the Universal Insurance Company for this good venture. We are behind you, we support you, we encourage you that this is a form of social responsibility and we also pray that your company will grow to high heights.”
