Unilag releases NUGA schedule

The University of Lagos has released the schedule containing the sports events and venues for the 26th National University Games Association (NUGA).

The long awaited NUGA is being hosted by the University of Lagos and is set to hold from Wednesday, the 6th of March to Sunday, 27th of March, 2022.

Universities will be competing in 17 sports that have been grouped into four categories – individual sports, team sports, racket sports and combat sports.

Recall that the games which were initially scheduled to be held in 2020 were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The 12-day  sport activities begin today, Wednesday, March 16 with the arrival of participating students, officials and other members of the participating schools.

On the second and third day of the event, accreditation and technical meetings will be held.

The opening ceremony has been slated for Day 4. However, some games which will start before the opening are expected to observe a break in honour of the ceremony.

This refers to all the team sports except hockey. Team sports include football ,basketball, cricket ,handball, and volleyball. 

They will all be held at the UNILAG Sport Centre, Yaba College of Technology, Yaba and the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. 

On standby for hosting when necessary and  venues for training are Rowe Park, National Stadium, CMS Grammar School and Baptist Academy.

Students representing their schools in the individual sports will have their events in Yabatech, UNILAG Women Society Hall and the Tolulope Odugbemi Hall.

Combat sports on the other hand will take place at the Indoors Sports Hall and UNILAG Sports Centre while racket sports will be held at the National Stadium, Jelili Omotola hall, UNILAG Staff Club and Sports Centre.
