MOVE TO END ASUU & ASUS STRIKE BEGINS

The federal government has begun moves to end the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), by commencing payment of the minimum wage arrears it is owing.

This was made known in an interview with the National President of ASUP and Chairman of ASUU, FUTMINA.

Recall that ASUP is on a two-week warning strike, while ASUU began its strike action on February 14th of this year.

After this payment of the minimum wage arrears, the national President of ASUP stated that this is just a step out of the mile.
“I can confirm that we have started seeing alerts of the minimum wage arrears. The government has started responding, but this is just one out of our numerous demands, and they need to do all”, Ezeibe explained.

The Chairman of ASUU, FUTMINA Chapter also confirmed this in his interview.
“Our salaries are still pending, but we have received minimum wages arrears”.

Some institutions like Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, have said they would resume despite the ongoing strike action.
