Moses Aboaba Trust Fund: Empowering the Next Generation of Political Leaders

The Moses Aboaba Trust Fund is a prestigious scholarship program established by Chief Moses Inaolaji Aboaba, the Bobagunwa of Igbajoland, the first Secretary to the Osun State Government, and the first Head of Service of Osun State.

Aboaba is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Lagos and is the former Managing Director/CEO of the National Economic Reconstruction Fund (NERFUND). Dedicated to academic excellence, leadership, and mentorship, the scholarship is awarded to exceptionally talented students in the Department of Political Science to support their educational journeys and professional development.

The Aboaba Trust Foundation established the fund to address the financial barriers that many talented students face. This scholarship is designed not only to provide financial assistance but also to offer mentorship opportunities that help shape the academic and professional paths of the recipients. Through this initiative, students receive monetary support along with guidance, career advice, and networking opportunities, all of which prepare them for leadership roles in politics, governance, and public service.

One of the most notable beneficiaries of the Moses Aboaba Trust Fund is Adepoju Enitan, a graduate of Political Science and former President of the International Affairs Students Association (IASA) at the University of Lagos, as well as the former General Secretary of the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS Nigeria).

Enitan reflects on his experience, describing the scholarship as truly transformative. He notes that while the financial support alleviated some of his academic burdens, it was the mentorship and leadership training that had the most significant impact on his career. He credits the scholarship with helping him develop critical skills, expand his professional network, and gain a deeper understanding of political administration and governance.

The impact of the Moses Aboaba Trust Fund extends far beyond individual recipients. By investing in young political scientists, the initiative contributes to the growth of Nigeria’s intellectual and administrative landscape. Many beneficiaries of the scholarship have gone on to make meaningful contributions in academia, public service, and policy-making, reinforcing the program’s legacy of excellence.

Aboaba’s vision is clear, education is the foundation of national development, and the next generation of leaders must be equipped with both knowledge and mentorship. The Moses Aboaba Trust Fund exemplifies his commitment to empowering youth by providing resources and support to diligent and bright students, enabling them to succeed. Through this initiative, Aboaba is actively contributing to the future of governance and leadership in Nigeria, thereby leaving a lasting legacy in the field of political science.

The University of Lagos wishes Chief Moses Aboaba many more years as he celebrates his 85th birthday, honouring his lifelong contributions to education, mentorship, and national development.
