Lights, Camera, Study! How Iremide Adeoye Blends Stardom with Academics

The odds of balancing a successful acting career with the demands of university life are slim. Yet, it’s nothing short of remarkable when someone excels in both. That blend of creative talent, discipline, and commitment? That’s what defines Iremide Adeoye’s journey.

Popularly known as “Fantasticks,” Iremide Adeoye is an award-winning actor, drummer, media personality, and entertainer. This young creative has gained recognition for his incredible acting skills. His performances in movies like Wura, Funmilayo Ransom Kuti, Madam Koi Koi, and Tiger’s Tail have made him a rising star in Nollywood. He has received numerous awards for his achievements, including the prestigious Best Actor award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Adeoye has been involved in the entertainment industry since he was very young. In an interview with The Guardian, the then-15-year-old Adeoye revealed that he had been playing the drums since age four and providing entertainment services to people. This early interest led him to explore other aspects of entertainment.

In an interview with UNILAG Sun, Adeoye shared the challenges of balancing his acting career with academics.

“Balancing academia and an acting career is certainly not an easy task. I don’t exactly recommend it, but this is a lifestyle I’ve been living since I was much younger. I’ve been simultaneously juggling entertainment and education. I try to be disciplined and properly prioritise and manage my time. I’ve always had to do double the work because of the demands of both sectors.”

Adeoye believes that his studies in Mass Communication have helped complement his acting career:

“I think both worlds complement each other. Two significant concepts hold both industries together—communication and the audience. You need to properly understand these concepts and how to work around them for both industries. Sometimes, what I study as a theory in Mass Communication, I experience practically in filmmaking.”

He credits his success to the support of his family, friends, and lecturers, who have been understanding.

“A couple of my lecturers have been incredibly understanding of my journey, supporting me in ways that have made it easier to balance my academics with my acting career. My friends have always shown up for me, making sure I never feel alone in the process. Academically, I feel safe and supported because they’re always there when I need them.”

As Nollywood grows and gains global recognition, Iremide dreams of helping to shape its future by championing narratives that push boundaries in storytelling, quality, and excellence.

“I want to bring new ideas and tell stories that challenge people’s thinking. Acting is not just a career but a way to create meaningful conversations and inspire change,” he shared.

Despite the pressures of being in the spotlight, Adeoye stays authentic to himself.

“I am intentional about my choices and like staying true to myself. Therefore, I put myself first before societal expectations.” 

When asked how he handles criticism, he responded,

“There is no growth without criticism, and I am my first and biggest critic. I also consider reviews from my team, friends, and industry professionals.” He also added. “It is equally crucial to filter the information and critiques you absorb. The mind of an artist is sacred, and you must protect it. You would not want to pollute it.”

Looking ahead, Adeoye plans to continue acting while exploring opportunities in other areas of Mass Communication, such as journalism.

“Both industries are integral to who I am and complement each other in many ways. I am fortunate to be actively involved in both,” he said.

Adeoye encourages students to take breaks when they feel burned out from managing their academics and creative pursuits. He emphasises that time management is the key to balancing these two.
