The Junior Chamber International Nigeria (JCIN), University of Lagos (UNILAG) Chapter, has once again demonstrated its commitment to community development by successfully conducting its annual Educate a Child Outreach at Eletu Odibo High School in Yaba on February 14, 2025.
The initiative provided the students with essential academic resources, including school materials, stationery, bags, and invaluable knowledge to support their educational journey. According to the organisation’s president, Isaac Temitope Ajenufuja, the primary goal of the outreach aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes lifelong learning opportunities. In his note of appreciation, he said, “We were able not only to educate but also equip them with essential learning materials to support their academic journey.”
In partnership with Web3UNILAG, the project was carried out to raise awareness of the rate of school dropouts and to support the children with basic educational materials.
Apart from the project volunteers, the event featured a lineup of speakers, who took turns sharing invaluable insights on career growth, academic discipline, and technological opportunities with the students.
Speaking at the event, Oluwatosin Adebiyi, a student of Economics at the University of Lagos, emphasized the importance of consistency and action. She encouraged the students to pursue their academic aspirations by taking practical steps daily to help them achieve their goals.
Aguda Toluwani, a University of Lagos graduate and President of Web3UNILAG encouraged the students to explore technology opportunities. He advised, “You can become a professional in tech through the technology industry. Start small by learning on your smartphone with apps like Coursera or Udemy.”
The team distributed essential academic supplies, including notebooks, socks, stationeries, and custom JCIN UNILAG bags, ensuring that each student received the tools needed for their educational journey. The event concluded with an expression of gratitude from the school’s principal, who lauded JCIN UNILAG’s dedication to educational empowerment and invited the organization to return for future programs.
