UNILAG Orients Student Teachers Ahead of 2026/2027 Teaching Practice

The Faculty of Education, University of Lagos (UNILAG), held orientation for 300- 400-level student teachers ahead of the 2026/2027 teaching practice exercise, urging them to uphold professional ethics, discipline and responsibility during their school placements.

The orientation, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, was organised by the Faculty’s Teaching Practice Committee to prepare the students for the expectations and challenges of teaching in real classroom environments.

Representing the Chairperson of the Teaching Practice Committee, Dr. Augustine Anyanwu, the Sub-Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Adetoun Emiola, welcomed the students and noted teaching practice as an essential requirement for students in the Faculty of Education.

She also stated the requirements students must meet before participating in the exercise and urged them to represent UNILAG positively at their respective schools.

The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Joseph Awoyinfa, urged the student teachers to approach the exercise with discipline and dedication.

He warned them against using inappropriate language and violating school rules, stressing the need for professionalism throughout their placements.

Awoyinfa also stated that students who successfully complete the exercise would be issued Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) certificates.

The orientation featured sessions on professional ethics, lesson planning, classroom management, record keeping and strategies for managing challenges that may arise during teaching practice.

Facilitators also addressed lesson preparation, board writing, managing large classes, assessment and effective time management.

The student teachers were advised to create a positive first impression at their assigned schools by maintaining neat, modest and appropriate appearances and conducting themselves professionally.

They were also encouraged to remain receptive to constructive feedback from cooperating teachers.
