Digitization not just for sciences – Arts Dean

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Olufunke Adeboye has touted the Center of Digital Humanities as part of the faculty’s scheme to familiarize her students with technological innovations around the world.

She made this statement during an interview with UNILAG Sun reporters last week.

“The Center for digital humanities was organized for graduate students and senior undergraduates to help them appreciate the world of digitization”, she said. 

Adeboye stressed the establishment of the centre as part of the faculty’s contribution to preparing her students to adapt to the new digital world. 

She continued by saying that digitization does not apply only to sciences but also to humanities and all other courses.

Speaking about the operations of the centre, she said “Their focus now is more on graduate students and then, senior undergraduates, maybe final year students, to help them appreciate that the world of digitization is not about the sciences alone. 

“The humanities are also being digitized. Digitized in terms of sources of information, digitized in terms of the methodology of research, digitized in terms of dissemination of research findings.”

“So, it cuts across all, and whether you’re in history or you’re in English or philosophy or languages, you fit into this world of digital humanities.”
