The Founder of Iya Moria Canteen, Alhaja Kehinde Yakubu, has presented three solar-powered outdoor lights to the Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos (DLI, UNILAG), to brighten the road linking DLI, International School and Honours hostel.
The donation took place on October 7, 2026.
The Director of DLI, Prof. Risikat Dauda, praised Yakubu for her generosity, which she said has benefited both the Institute and the wider university.
“As you have donated these solar lights to illuminate the DLI road, God Almighty will illuminate everything that concerns you,” she said.
She noted that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, also acknowledged the canteen’s generous activities within the university.
Yakubu said the donation forms part of her canteen’s corporate social responsibility activitie, adding that anyone who benefits from a system has a duty to give back to it.
“When you are benefiting from a system, it is incumbent upon you to give back to society,” she said.
“Failure to give back amounts to ingratitude of the highest order.
“I’m simply giving back to UNILAG, where I have benefited immensely from.”
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Directors, Dr. Abosede Ebabhi (AP&D) and Dr. Adenike Oladipo (M&C); the Head of Management Sciences, Professor Peter Olayiwola; the Acting Head of Education, Dr. Omowunmi Adegun; the Institute Secretary, Mr. Olabode Olanitori; and the Principal Technical Officer, Maintenance, Mr. Kazeem Olawale.
