The University of Lagos (UNILAG) campus community will be holding candlelight procession in honor of Damilola Balogun, who drowned at a Lagos beach.
Balogun was a 400-Level student of Adult education and the president-elect of the Nigerian University Education Students’ Association (NUESA) UNILAG chapter.
The procession is set to hold at the Faculty of Education, UNILAG, on September 23 at 6 p.m.
Balogun died on Friday, 19 September, at Museyo beach, Ibeju-Lekki, after he allegedly attempted to throw a backflip but was swept away by the waves.
Confirming the incident to UNILAG Sun, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, public relations officer of UNILAG, said, “yes, it is confirmed as true.”
Peter Oyewole, ex-president of NUESA UNILAG, expressed shock over his death, saying “my feeling died with him.”
Ayomide Adegboro, president-elect, Communication students’ association (COMSA), also expressed his shock about the news
“Confirming his death from the dean of education faculty really struck me. I’ve heard so much about the impact he has made on the faculty,” he said.
“I was still in a meeting with him last week; he had a jovial spirit and was really willing to get to work and serve alongside other faculty presidents. may his soul live on.”
