UNILAG Faculty of Pharmacy Inducts 132 Pharmacists, 67 Bag Distinction

The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has inducted 132 new pharmacists into the profession, with 67 students bagging distinctions.

The ceremony, themed “Bridging Tradition and Technology: Strengthening Pharmacy for a Digital and Global Future,” was held at the Old Great Hall of the College of Medicine, Idi-Araba, on 10 December 2025, which celebrated the completion of the 2024/2025 academic cohort.

The best graduating student, Samuel Jeremiah, earned a CGPA of 4.92, followed by the best graduating female student and overall second-best graduate, Livwell Divine, who also earned commendation for her strong academic performance across several pharmacy disciplines.

The third best graduating student, Kutu Sarah, also received the Bowl of Hygeia Award for professional excellence, ethical conduct, and community service.

The University’s vice-chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, represented by the former deputy vice-chancellor, Professor. Oluwole Babafemi noted that the induction reflects the university’s commitment to producing competent, ethical, and industry-ready professionals who contribute to national development.

He encouraged the inductees to be good representatives of the university.

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Sunday Adesegun, expressed satisfaction with the faculty’s performance, noting that the number of distinctions recorded by the graduates reflected the faculty’s commitment to excellence.

He congratulated the inductees, urging them to uphold the profession’s values as they begin their internship year.

“Let us celebrate excellence, resilience, and the bright future that lies ahead for the pharmacy profession,” he said.

“May today inspire our inductees to champion innovation, uphold ethical standards, and serve humanity with passion and zeal.”

Chairman of the induction ceremony, Dr Victor Afolabi, advised the inductees to manage their expectations, noting that life may not always go as planned, and at times, outcomes may fall short of their efforts.

He added that such moments should not be seen as failures but as tests of character, stressing that what truly matters is how individuals respond to these setbacks.  

“I pledge with you to embrace innovation, because surprises lie ahead,” he said.

“Manage your expectations. Life will not always unfold exactly as you have planned it, and there will be times where your results differ from your efforts. This does not mean you have faild.”

Victor also encouraged them to approach their careers with patience, resilience, and a readiness to keep learning.

The registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu represented by Pharm. Taiwo Filusi, addressed the inductees on the next stages of their professional journey beginning with their internships.

He encouraged them to remain willing and committed to continuous learning as they transition into practice.
