UNILAG Equips Lecturers For Global Excellence

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is setting a shining example in Nigeria’s academic landscape by equipping its professors and lecturers with the digital skills needed to excel in the global academic arena.

The landmark workshop held at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Center, UNILAG, in the celebration of the World Skills Day hosted by the University’s Career Development Service (UNILAG- OCDS) brought together top experts and facilitators to empower its faculty members with the tools and knowledge required to thrive in today’s digital age.

The workshop, themed “Future-Ready Facilities: Skilling for Global Workforce Preparedness,” was a testament to UNILAG’s commitment to preparing its academics for the demands of the global academic space, by focusing on building strong, professional LinkedIn profiles, the workshop provided lecturers with a platform to enhance their personal branding, attract global collaborations, and boost the visibility of the institution.

Speaking at the session, Adeleke Adesina, a Life and Business Systems coach at Tregs Consulting, stressed that a well-curated LinkedIn presence is no longer optional for academics. According to him, “visibility leads to opportunity,” as it will lead to creating a platform for mentorship that will engage both students and alumni.

He further outlined twelve practical strategies lecturers can use to improve their LinkedIn profiles, including optimizing their headlines, “About” sections, featuring publications and achievements, joining academic groups, showing full experience, highlighting education awards and certifications, the “Featured” section should highlight key publications, Regular posting of research summaries, Engaging with network, Using hashtags for visibility, Join academic groups, request and give endorsement and also, customizing the LinkedIn URL for accessibility.

The workshop reflects UNILAG’s commitment to preparing its faculty for the digital demand of the global academic space.
