The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has secured second place in the recently concluded Lagos Campus Soccer Competition, tagged “Lagos Campus Beach Soccer 2025.”
The event, which took place on July 26 at Atican Beach, Lekki, was organized by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with BrandEscort Communications. It featured participation from several tertiary institutions across Lagos.
Team UNILAG, known for its impressive sportsmanship, demonstrated resilience throughout the tournament. However, consecutive draws against Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) prevented them from claiming the top spot, earning them a well-deserved silver medal.
LASUED emerged as the overall winner, taking home the gold medal and a cash prize of N200,000. UNILAG received N100,000 for second place, while Lagos City Polytechnic came third with a cash prize of N50,000.
The competition was spearheaded by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Sports Development, Adebanji Atewogboye, who emphasized the state government’s dedication to youth empowerment through sports.
“This event aligns perfectly with the Governor’s agenda of promoting grassroots sports development and using it as a tool for social impact. We remain committed to supporting initiatives like this to positively transform the lives of youths in Lagos State,” Atewogboye said.
Bamidele Adeleye, Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, expressed satisfaction with the success of the maiden edition, revealing plans to expand the tournament in 2026 to include higher institutions from other states.
As a pioneering initiative in Nigeria, the tournament aims to discover and showcase emerging football talents from tertiary institutions within and beyond Lagos.
